Bedlington Golf Club first opened in 1972, after Bedlingtonshire Urban District Council decided the town needed more sporting facilities.
The local authority felt the town needed a big sporting presence and bought 127 acres of land – including 100 acres that had previously been an opencast mine – from the National Coal Board and the site was fenced off, restored and landscaped into the modern course of today.
Based half a mile south of Bedlington town centre on the A1068, the course is 6,813 yards long and a par 73 – providing a challenge, particularly in windy conditions. The members took over the running of the club in 2001, before getting full control in 2008, when they purchased the club from the council. Since then, they have invested £400,000 on improvements to the clubhouse and the playing course.
Facilities include practice areas where golfers can improve their putting, chipping and bunker shot techniques, as well as a separate area for irons and woods practice. The clubhouse offers a friendly atmosphere with food and drinks available. Since 2016, the bar and catering services have been managed in-house and the club is available for a wide range of events including weddings, anniversaries and fundraisers.
As part of the refurbishment programme, Crown Sports Lockers fitted out the ladies’ locker room with modern new facilities. We manufactured and installed a desk unit, new raised and fielded solid oak-framed panel doors to match the golf bag lockers, and new six-tier valuables lockers.
